December began with a Christmas lunch at the Blue bell in Easton on the Hill. The weather was not kind to us & there was a lot of snow, but 10 of us did venture out to eat.
Our next Christmas event was a party night at Greetham Valley Golf Club. Once again it was very chilly, but thankfully there was no snow.
However more snow meant a post Christmas walk & meal had to be cancelled. It has now been re-scheduled; hopefully to a day with no inclement weather.
Sadly one of our members & friend, Roger, lost his brave battle with cancer & passed away while sleeping. I'm sure everyone will agree that Roger was extremely courageous & managed his diagnosis with great dignity; still managing to show glimpses of his dry sense of humour! He was a very supportive member & also our treasurer; who will be greatly missed. A good number of current & previous members turned up to show their respect as he was laid to rest; some having to rush out of work or brave winter coughs & colds.
The next event was a meal at the London Inn in Stamford, a venue that offers tasty, good value dishes.
Our final event was one of our favourites, a “pie, pud & party” evening at Greetham Valley. Lots of delicious pie followed by fruit crumble & custard; with a chance do dance off the calories! A lovely way to spend a cold winter evening!
